The year 2021 is fast coming to its close, and like always, we are looking forward to what the new year will bring us. Some of us may even have New Year’s Resolutions in the hopes of improving ourselves.
But, have you considered making a New Year career resolution?
If you want to start some for the upcoming year, here are some great ones you can consider:
#1 Target The Top
Let’s face it. We tend to procrastinate on our work when we find it simple or boring to do. As a result, we are delaying our move to the top and achieving our career targets.
If we fight against our procrastinating habits and open talks with our team leader about opportunities to challenge ourselves, we will be inspired to work hard and achieve our targets. It will also become clear what our future careers will be like if we are motivated.
#2 Learn Something New
No matter how old you are and think it’s too late to learn something, get that out of your head.
Learning something new can help you keep up with the changing workplace and industry. It can also help you relax after a hard day and even discover a passion that you can use to boost your career.
#3 Be Organised
Is your work desk always filled with paperwork and unable to find the right file regularly? Do you have an email backlog you still haven’t checked or sorted out? Maybe you can use the next year to start being organized and creating a system that will allow you to become more productive.
Start by sorting out your physical files and keeping only those important. You can then turn to your digital files by sorting them into folders and indicating their importance.
#4 Set Clear Boundaries
Sometimes, we may feel overwhelmed with the work we are getting every day to the point we may say we want to quit. If you do well with the workload, the workload will inevitably continue to increase because your bosses will notice your work. While taking in all the jobs could help you look good, you may end up burning yourself up in the process.
So, if you already have a heavy workload and are asked to do more, learn how to say no and explain that you are unable to work on it. But, you will need to be careful in balancing this skill because there may be times when a demanding client comes back for a sudden request and your team is short of staff.
#5 Give Time To Yourself
The past two years have been challenging for all of us, and it’s unclear when the end of the pandemic is in sight. With this in mind, you must give yourself some breathing space and some time to relax from what’s going on in both work and life in general.
Some of the ways you can give time to yourself are by sticking with your work hours and not going beyond it, don’t let work bleed into your break and doing something you love during your own time.
With the new year coming, don’t be afraid to try something new and change your career outlook. Try out these resolutions to your list and do your best in keeping them because, at the end of 2022, you will definitely see an improvement in your career.
Have a happy new year!
