The current economic crisis and the natural events that have besieged the world for the past couple of months has definitely made job hunting very tricky for a lot of people. No matter where you turn, there are many people especially graduates currently unemployed and unable to get a job.

If you are one of these people who are desperately looking for a job in these trying times, how can you make yourself more appealing to companies? To help you out, here are 6 secrets to help you get a job during a recession:

#1 Know your targets

All of us have a dream workplace we covet to work for or an industry we want to join in. When doing a job search, always check these workplaces or industries and ask around if there is an opening even if there’s no posting about it.

Always build your network. You may not know someone working in your dream industry or company but that doesn’t mean friends around you do not know that “someone” too.

#2 Check openings at growth industries

Although there are industries which are suffering because of the recession, there will be certain industries that are not affected by the climate. These growth industries will definitely have openings available to keep up with the demand for their products and services during this situation.

#3 Consider freelancing gigs

Waiting for an interview call can take a while. While you wait, it is important that you still have an income to work on especially if your previous job was your only source of income. Freelancing not only provide the much needed income but also allow you to accumulate experiences.

#4 Promote yourself
