8 Reasons That You Are Better Employee Than Your Boss

Most of us are an employee at one time or other. Some of us have the good fortune to work with best bosses while some of us are tortured under incompetent ones. In case, you are currently working with a bad boss, here is some key identifying behavior that says volumes about what a great employee you are.

You Come In Early For Work

Your boss struts in the office early morning and he finds that his mailbox is flooded by emails by you nonetheless. You have already begun your day an hour age while he is still stretching in his chair, debating in his mind on whether to walk to the pantry for his morning coffee. Some of us are early starters but it doesn’t say much about respecting punctuality if your boss is constantly the last one to arrive.

You Contribute 90% Of The Ideas

Worse, if your boss takes those of your ideas as his own. A good boss will appreciate your input, a better boss will improvise what you have suggested and a great boss will up your ideas with even a better idea of his own and allow you to lead the idea into reality. A lazy boss will shrink behind you, steal your ideas and dismiss all your ideas as bullshit.

You Cover For Your Boss When He Is Away

And he is away a lot! I used to know a senior manager who was away most of the time, whether it is personal or business trip. You can actually count on your fingers and toes how many times we have seen him in the office. So much so, the company just promote the guy who kept covering for this senior manager into his role. The next time you are covering for your boss, don’t fret because you might do such a great job on it that management might just promote you to the seat.

Management Look To You For Advice

I had that happened to me before and it is quite embarrassing when someone from senior management walks into our department looking for me instead of my boss to ask questions on the project that our department is working on. It’s not that my boss isn’t around. In fact, my boss came out after the senior manager left to ask what was he after. If you notice that everyone from different ranks and positions identify you as the go-to person on the team, you probably have something that your boss did not.

Everyone Prefers To Talk To You

Same as above except it is now everyone in the company prefers to talk to you. Every single one from the janitor to the CEO (okay, maybe not the CEO but his secretary). Why? Maybe because you are more friendly and sociable. Or maybe you are just better at your job that you can provide answers without looking at your files and of course, without being cocky.

When Shit Happens, You Are The One Who Cleans It Up

Clearly says everything about you that you are always the one made to clean up the mess that your boss leave behind. You may not be assigned to clean up after your boss but deep down in your heart, you understand the impact and consequences of someone don’t take charge to clear up this mess. Therefore, you stepped up while your boss silently congratulates himself for having the foresight to hire you.

People Expect You To Give Speeches At Company’s Events

If someone shoves your boss off the podium and passes you the mike, wow, that’s a clear-cut bold move to recognize you as the leader of the pack. Your coworkers rather you represent as the face of the company than to let your boss blabbering nonsense for hours.

Your Salary Is More Than Your Boss’s

If you think that is impossible, think again. I had that happened to me twice, in different companies. I know for sure because both companies’ HR had to tell me not to reveal my actual salary to my supervisors if they ever have gotten around to ask me. It so happened that I was at the top point of my role’s salary range while my supervisors are at the bottom of theirs. Hence my salary actually slightly tip above theirs. Just very slightly but it still feels good to be paid higher than your boss.

There you have it, 8 reasons that you are better than your boss and you probably are better off somewhere else if you still don’t usurp his position within two years. Do you think you hit any reasons above? Are you a better employee than your boss? Share with us in the comment section below!
