Time flies and I am turning 40 this year (shocking, I know!) so this topic is very close to my heart! It is never easy to make the decision to switch careers, especially if you are 40 years old or older.
You may also think there’s not a lot of careers available for your age group and the cost of going back to school is too high. There’s also no guarantee that taking the time to study for a new degree will pay off for your career once you finish it.
Fortunately, there are careers that are worth the mid-career shift no matter what reasons you may have for doing such a move.
To give you some ideas about what careers you can check out even if you are 40 years old and up, here are some of my career suggestions:
Registered Nurse
Nurses often have a high and stable salary that can reach up to USD$70,000 per year. When you take this career, you will need to learn more about healthcare and how you can support all sorts of patients in hospitals to home care.
Interested people who wish to switch to this career will only take 2 to 4 years to complete their studies for this field.

They can earn up to USD$86,850 per year and will take around 7 years to finish their degree.
Web Developer
With the popularity of websites, a web developer is a lucrative career to be in. They are the ones who do websites and can work as a freelancer or with a marketing agency. Web developers are also capable of doing coding and web design, allowing them to handle every aspect of website development.
It can take up to 2 to 4 years to complete web developing courses. But, there are web developers who learned everything they need to know by themselves.
Doing this same method can help you save time and money, especially if you are still maintaining your current job.
SEO Specialist
Aside from web developers, SEO specialists are a popular career because they ensure websites high traffic and get people to engage with the available content.
They are also the ones who check if a brand’s marketing strategy works and ensure the website is always up-to-date. Studying to become an SEO specialist can take up to 4 years and will require people to stay up-to-date with digital marketing changes.

Conclusion
Going back to school while you are working on your chosen career can be scary to think about and do at first. But, if you know which careers to look into, you can make a detailed decision on which career to shift into.
Even if you are older, you already have a lot of experience to fall back into as you try to push towards your new career.
