How Do I Know If I Did Well On My Job Interview

As a job seeker, getting into the interview stage is a victory. However, it can be very tricky to figure out if you did well during the interview or not, especially if you can’t seem to remember what you said during that time. Even those who get the job would admit they forgot what happened because of their nerves, which is understandable given the importance of these interviews to their job search.

So, how can you tell if you did well during your job interview? Before you get feedback from the recruiter or hiring manager, here are some signs that will tell you if it was a good interview.

The Interview Took Longer Than Usual

Some recruiters or hiring managers will tell you how long an interview can take since they will have to interview other applicants. If the interview went beyond their set time, it is a sign they are interested in your potential as a possible employee.

The Conversation Was Warm And Fluid

Was it easy to speak to the interviewer? Did they make eye contact with you often and smile as you answered? If the answer is yes, you created the rapport they are looking for in an employee who can work with the team.

Talks About Your Role Were Discussed

Did your interview allow you to learn more about the role you are applying for? Did the interviewer explain the team and the role itself? If yes, it is a sign that the interviewer saw your potential and believes that you are the one they are looking for to fill the position.

You Were Given A Chance To Meet Your Possible Coworkers

Some interviews often happen in just one room of the building, usually far away from the rest of the employees. But, if the interviewer introduces you to your potential coworkers and even the company leaders after the interview, they are confident about your potential and want the rest to see it.

The Recruiter Received Good Feedback About You

If you have the chance to speak to the recruiter after the interview, you can ask if the company who interviewed you gave positive feedback about you as a potential candidate. If they did leave good feedback for the recruiter to know, they are saying that they will continue interviewing other applicants, but you already have an edge. If they did not leave feedback, you might have failed to show the right stuff.

While a positive interview doesn’t mean that you got the job already, it is a good omen that you have done an excellent job during the most critical part of your job hunting. Until the offer is confirmed, continue job searching so you have a backup plan if you don’t get the position. If you do fail to get the job you applied for, look back at your performance during the interview by asking the recruiter what you did well and use it to help you prepare for the next one.
