I seldom do product reviews and when I do, I always do my best to give an honest judgement. Normally, I do service reviews but unfortunately, I don’t get paid for it. So, when someone values my opinion for one of their best-selling products, which is always sold out, I just couldn’t say no.
I also thought that it will be cool to share with all of you how you can do an honest product review without selling your soul. Some MiddleMe readers have been asking me how to monetize websites without turning it into a hype beast commercial platform. The key to succeeding at this is to be selective with who you collaborate with. If you are promoting a product without even testing or using it, it will be just plain fraud. If it is a genuine product that you love to try and that you are willing to write a review without being sponsored by the company, by no means, go for it!
Everything comes at the right timing too. For example, my current pillow is already worn out after my daughter decided to have pillow fights with our cats. Then, I heard my friends bought their mattresses from Origin Malaysia, and I decided to get myself a new pillow.

The founders of Origin Malaysia, Shaun and Gee, have envisioned in giving Malaysians the comfortable sleep that they need at affordable prices. They said that a mattress is a long-term investment and having one with good quality is a must. Price can be a problem to some, but with the quality and affordability of the products of Origin Malaysia, they have made their mattresses the easiest choice to choose from. Mattresses from Origin Malaysia usually undergo extensive tests like Polysomnograms, Multiple Sleep Latency (MSL), and Maintenance of Wakefulness Tests (MWT) to study how the types of bedding can affect the quality of sleep based on a range of factors such as age, lifestyle, and sleeping postures. With the company’s pillow products alone, they perform 10 different product tests and 100 density changes before the pillow can be available on the market.
With such meticulous care and the thought they put into their products, I got excited when my pillow finally arrived. It came protected, wrapped in plastic and packed inside a cardboard box. However, for the environment’s sake, I’d rather have the company use other materials to wrap the pillow instead of plastic, like a nice recyclable cloth bag or even recycled sheets of paper.
Cardboard and plastics 😦
According to its website, Origin Superior Coolmax® Latex Pillow is made in Germany. Their pillows are featured as one of the best 8 pillows in Singapore too.
When I pulled out the pillow from the box, the first thing that struck me was how solid and different it feels from my pillows before. I am a fan of feathered pillows and fluffy down pillows. Unfortunately, these types of pillow are not ideal when you are living in Malaysia due to the hot weather. Your neck will feel prickly and itchy with feathered pillows unless you sleep in an air-conditioned room all night. As I mentioned before, my down pillow is out of shape now (thanks to my daughter’s pillow fight), and my head just sinks right to the bottom, like Moses parted the red sea!
Fortunately, the Origin Superior Coolmax® Latex Pillow is infused with a special cooling gel formula so I won’t be tossing and turning around in the middle of the night due to heat and humidity from my pillow.
True enough, after a week of trying my latex pillow, I never had to wake up due to heat and discomfort. The support on my head and neck was just the right height I needed. The pillow cradled the back of my head like two hands cupping it gently and my neck didn’t feel as sore as before using my down pillow. This is truly awesome as I often have upper back problems due to my sitting posture after long hours in front of my laptop. Also, the pillow smells great too. I love how it gives off a subtle charcoal bamboo kind of smell that lingers in my bed.
The other thing I noticed is that my IKEA pillowcase is way too loose for my new pillow as there is a lot of extra space around the edges. Not that it matters to others, but it does irk me a bit because I love to make my bed like how they do in the hotels – neat and tucked in.
So comfy that even Matcha wants to snooze on the pillow!
I am all in for a good night sleep because I always need a full 8-hour of sleep to be strong and active. This is to ensure that I can balance and run my household, with an active 3-year old child and 3 playful cats, and my freelancing career. A good supportive pillow is my first step to getting restful and healthy sleep. Next, I will plan to buy their mattress since Origin Malaysia provides a 120-day trial for their mattresses. That kind of confidence speaks volume, right? Wow!
