Should You Apply for Two Positions At The Same Company?

Let’s face it. Job searching can be exhausting, especially if you want to work in a competitive industry.

You may find multiple positions you like during your search, and some of them are in the same company. It can be very tempting to apply for these openings if you have their credentials. Still, you will need to be careful because the hiring manager may consider your applications a desperate attempt to get employed.

If you find yourself in this situation where you find two positions in the same company you can apply for, here are some of the questions you need to ask yourself to help you decide:

Do You Have The Qualifications To Take On Both Roles?

The first thing you need to ask yourself if you should apply for both positions or not is if you have the qualifications necessary. Check the job descriptions for both job openings and see if there are similarities, differences and what skills are being considered. If you see a difference in the job openings, apply for the position that you believe is perfect for you.

If you attempt to apply for both job openings despite the gaps in your skillset, you will not be considered, and you will show the hiring team that you did not look into the job descriptions carefully. They may also disqualify you from the other position regardless of your skills and experience.

Consider applying for both if you are uncertain which works well for your skillset, and let them assess it during the interview. You may also use both positions for different departments, so do your research beforehand.

Does This Company Mean A Lot To You?

All of us have a dream boss or company we want to work for, and if the opportunity arrives, we try our best to be involved in their work as one of their employees. If the company is essential to you, your zeal – which will be seen in your application – will be considered by the hiring manager.

If you plan to apply for both positions, make sure that your application is well-done to communicate your desire to work for the company. If you don’t have the enthusiasm levels they are looking for in their desired employees, your application may be considered poorly thought out.

What Is The Application Process For Both Jobs?

Finally, if you plan to apply for both positions, ask or research their application process. There are instances where companies have different application procedures for similar posts, and you will need to pass the proper resume and cover letter to be considered.

By taking your time and revising your resume and cover letter to match each position, you will show that you have done your research and are ready to work with the company. Give yourself enough time to improve your resume to make it consistent and noteworthy for them to consider.

As a job seeker, you need to promote yourself from a positive angle to be considered for the position you applied for. If there are multiple openings for the company you wish to work on, take some time to reflect, do your research and adjust your applications accordingly.

By doing this, you may show the hiring manager that you know what you are doing if applying for both positions and figure out which position fits you perfectly.
