Chinese New Year is here, and it’s time to consider new resolutions that will help improve your life for the coming year. Unfortunately, many of us do not keep up with our resolutions and resume our old habits. This can be very dangerous for work in particular, especially if you are aiming to get a promotion or move to a new job.
But, if you want to change this for this coming year, here are 15 New Year’s Resolutions that can help you stay inspired at work:
1. Learn Something That You Won’t Need In Work Or Your Life
Sometimes, work can get too much, and you will need something to help you relax. It could be totally unrelated to your work and something you truly love. Once you pick the one you want to try, don’t think of its value for work, have fun! It may give you inspiration for your next career move.
2. Do Something That Stretches You To The Limit
If you want to grow in your career, try doing something that will challenge you to your limits. Maybe it is taking on a campaign that will help your brand get more exposure or volunteering. No matter which task you do, the experience can help you expand your horizons and discover skills you didn’t know you had.
3. Learn A New Tech Skill
With many industries turning to digital work, it is best to have tech skills to keep up with the work. If you aren’t tech-savvy or don’t know specific tech applications, why not take the time this year to learn new tech skills?
4. Read 3 Books That Will Inspire You To Achieve Your Career Goals
Nowadays, people read information and stories online and not books. Books are seen as boring and can be cumbersome to bring around. However, some of the best stories or information are in books. Even if you are not a reader, challenge yourself to read 3 books. You may find great inspiration in them to help you with your career goals.
5. Have A Gadget-Free Vacation For A Weekend Or More If Possible
Many of us cannot go away from home without having our technology close by. If it is away from you even for a single second, we would think that life is no longer proceeding as we want it to be. However, being away from our gadgets, even for a weekend or two, can do wonders for your recovery after a busy work schedule. It also reduces your chances of burning out due to work.
6. Upgrade Your Social Media Profiles
Are your social media profiles modified to match your professional image? If not, take some time to update it and make sure that there is no compromising information that your bosses may see and cause you to lose your job.
7. Thank Those Who Helped You Out
If you want to succeed in work or life, you need to make sure that you recognize the contribution of the people who helped you. Even a single thank you can go a long way.
8. Expand Your Network
Even if you do not plan to leave your current work, it is best to expand your network when you can. It will allow you to meet new people who can help you see new opportunities in improving your career and even provide you with a unique perspective on dealing with certain aspects of your work.
9. Build Your Brand
Like the previous number, even if you do not plan to leave work, building your brand can benefit your career, and it can help you be noticed by your bosses and colleagues who may need your expertise.
10. Stop Complaining
It is unavoidable to complain about your work and life in general. But if you don’t want your colleagues to avoid you, stop complaining about everything!
11. Eat Healthier While At Work
We tend to binge eat when we are at work, especially if our colleagues bring in food for special occasions. However, this can be unhealthy and make you feel sluggish, affecting your focus and performance in the long run. If you still want to eat at work, pick healthy snacks.
12. Do Your Best To Get A Promotion Or Raise
If you feel like you have been in your current job for a while and there’s no progress or growth, you should speak to your boss and ask what you can do to earn a promotion or a raise so you can continue to grow.
13. Volunteer
Want to feel good and add something nice to your resume? Why not take the time to volunteer for causes you want to support?
14. Stop Procrastinating
Do you tend to procrastinate on the job or get side-tracked easily? Don’t worry! You are not alone. But you should do your best to stop wasting time while on the job so you can do more work.
15. Start Your Retirement Fund
It would be best if you made it a resolution to start a retirement fund so that you have funds to lean back on once you retire.
