You might think that the idea of a recruiter poaching you from your current job to work in a perfect company with an ideal job, benefits, and salary to be a little far-fetched. While it’s true that such a situation doesn’t happen every day, such cases aren’t as rare as one might think.
It’s certainly possible to become a candidate that recruiters want to poach and below are five ways to help you get there.
Online Visibility
Ensuring that you have online visibility is crucial so that recruiters are able to find you.
You can be visible on platforms such as LinkedIn with an updated profile along with skills and qualifications. It’s important that the skills and qualifications you have are aligned with your job and market needs. The last thing you want is for a recruiter to think that your skills are out of date.
At the same time, if a portfolio is something your job market requires, ensure that your portfolio and website are also updated. It should always be ready for a recruiter to review.
Offline visibility
Offline visibility and online visibility work hand in hand.
Put yourself out there and attend networking sessions, conferences, workshops and always keep in contact with individuals that you’ve met through these sessions. If you’re able to participate as a speaker in certain high-level workshops or conferences, go ahead and do so to gain exposure.
There’s also no harm in being active and volunteering with your community to build a strong presence and relationship within your society. After all, you never know who you might meet.
Invest in yourself
In this day and age, the world is constantly evolving and so are the needs of companies. Hence, it’s important to upgrade your skills and broaden your knowledge.
While pursuing a higher education is certainly an option, it’s definitely not a must. You can always take classes online, attend workshops or just read up on articles, newspapers, and publications on various platforms. To stay current, it would also be ideal to subscribe to relevant websites so that you’re up to date on trends and the latest news in your industry.
Keep your communication channels open
Always keep your communication channels open, you never know if an ideal job opportunity might pop up.
In the event that a job recruiter contacts you and it isn’t the job that you’re looking for, you should still take the time to respond. In the future, they might have other job opportunities that are closer to what you’re looking for. When that happens, they’ll be more inclined to reach out to you.
Even after you’ve left a job, keep communication channels with your ex-colleagues open and maintain good relationships with them. They might have suitable jobs that they can refer to you in the future.
Be Confident
Know your strengths and not be afraid to showcase them. Even so, it’s important to not oversell yourself and assume that you’re the best candidate that they have on their list.
Acknowledge your strengths and weaknesses and be confident of the knowledge and skillset that you’ve worked so hard to build.
So…
While there are plenty of other ways to become the job candidate that recruiters want to poach, these five ways that we’ve identified are sure to put you in the spotlight. After all, this is your time to shine, so go ahead and do so.
