7 Ways To Rekindle The Joy Of Writing

When you are working as a writer for clients and yet keeping your blog up to date at the same time, you might lose the passion of writing. Maybe because you are mentally drained or having a huge writer’s block or even you are sick of being stuck to your desk/computer 9 hours a day. Piles after piles of writing non-stop for your clients, your creative juice tend to be squeezed dry. With requirements such as inserting SEO keywords and making sure it passed readability, I can totally understand writing becomes technical and no longer about letting the words flow through you. It is understandable that a writer doesn’t want to write anymore especially when facing the above elements.

I had writer friends who emailed me and asking how can they rekindled their passion for writing again. It’s not difficult to motivate yourself to pick up a pen to write again if you follow through the below steps:

#1 Pause Your Work

Put a pause in your writing work. Yes, you might be afraid that you’ll lose all your clients this way, however, if you are unable to produce good work anymore, it will be the best that you take a break rather than to submit shoddy work and ruin your reputation.

#2 Decrease Your Projects

When too much is too much, you need to recognise it and stop taking on so many projects at one time. I had to adjust every now and then to make sure I am not draining myself out of creative juice, striking a healthy balance between earning enough and enjoying the process.

#3 Take An Inspirational Trip

Take a break, go somewhere far or somewhere new, take in the culture or the breathe in nature. Forget about writing for a while. Drop your pen and paper. Concentrate on cleansing your mind (and your soul) and have fun. Ideas will come back to you soon enough as long as you are inspired.

#4 Read More

Ideas beget ideas. Whenever I read a book, an article even the news, I get some inspiration from the words I read. When you have ideas rushing into your head, you’ll be tempted to write them down. That is what writing should be about, an impulse to let your words flow from the get go. If you are stuck with characters’ names, using a name generator will help a lot.

#5 Don’t Push Yourself

If there’s nothing coming to you, don’t push it. The more worried you are, the more stress you are adding to yourself. The pressure doesn’t help any writers to unblock their writer’s block instead muddle their mind further. You might even start to doubt your ability to write anymore.

#6 Back To The Roots

Go back to the very beginning that made you love writing. Before you make writing your earning tool. Find back the joy then, whether it is writing about your travels or penning poems from your heart or pouring sob stories from your pen. Go back to pick up your pen or pencil and start writing on a notebook or a piece of paper.

#7 Help Others Help You

I always find helping others an inspiration to my writing, personal or otherwise and more often than not, will inspire me to write more because I know by sharing knowledge and information, my words will help someone in need. That makes me want to write even more.

Do the above tips help you? Share with us if you have more. Don’t give up on your passion, you can focus on something else to give yourself a break and come back to it later.
