I get excited whenever I stumbled upon a treasured find. Its like hunting for gold but you found diamonds instead! Below is a gem that I came across reading in the blogosphere and I am inspired by her words and the positive energy that glows from it (you can almost see joy bouncing off most of her work). Check out the rest of Janae Johnson’s articles here.
I’ve been blessed to become a nurse
But sometimes I feel like I’ve been cursed
I’ve seen people at their best
Many times I’ve met them at their worst
A rewarding career
A lifetime of cheer
If that’s what you think nursing is all about…
I’m sorry to inform you my dear
Sometimes we get cursed out
And people may also scream
You can believe you’re doing your best
And people will still say you’re mean
Sometimes we’re unappreciated which makes us feel like we’ve failed
Sometimes we walk through the door and we know it’s going to be hell
The energy is thick
The patients are sad
Verbal deescalation is everything
But, be sure not to make them mad
And although I’ve experienced some rough times as a nurse, I genuinely love what I do
It feels good to be in a position to help others that really need you
Nursing has become more than a career, it’s become a lifestyle to me
God handpicked some of the strongest women and made them nurses, I’m blessed that he entrusted me
To all of my patients, thank you for you have pushed me to be all that I can be
Your strength has made me stronger
Your vulnerability has helped a ton
You’ve challenged me more than you’ll ever know, but in the same breath gave me courage to move on
I thank you for your bluntness
I thank you for your laughs
I thank you for allowing me to help you and trusting me with stories from your past
You have all helped me so much on this journey to become a better me and as I always tell you right before we depart, make sure you take care of yourself and thank YOU for helping me.
