What Are The Worst Countries for Freelancers

Each year, the number of freelancers has grown significantly worldwide due to the benefits it presents to those who take on the profession. Regardless of their tasks, these freelancers can earn thousands of dollars and work at their own time and pace.

Because of their contributions and growing numbers, countries are establishing new laws and programs to accommodate and lure in freelancers. But, while some countries offer excellent benefits for freelancers, others are not suited for freelancers to work in should they consider moving to another location for work.

Here’s a short list of the worst countries to move to if you are a freelancer, in no particular order:

1. Belgium

The country has a very high-income tax, and the cost of living can be daunting to freelancers regardless of their income level.

2. Costa Rica

Costa Rica has very strict laws for anyone who wishes to start their own company, and Wi-Fi access is not readily available.

3. Ecuador

Although it is a great place to visit and relax, starting a business in Ecuador can be tricky. It is also tough to commute around the city, making living in the country hard.

4. Argentina

Much like Ecuador, this country has very strict laws for anyone who wishes to open a business. There are also limited options for foreigners to access credit, which freelancers may need to manage their businesses.

5. Uruguay

Uruguay does not have a lot of areas with free Wi-Fi, and it has one of the highest living costs in South America.

6. Israel

Israel has very high-income taxes and living costs, making it hard for freelancers to get situated in the country.

7. Philippines

Like most countries in this list, the Philippines is a top tourist destination. However, for freelancers, the country has minimal access to free Wi-FI, and it will be challenging to set up a company, especially if you are a foreigner.

8. Slovenia

Slovenia has very slow internet speeds, which is critical for several freelance projects if you can get an internet connection in your place. Outside, there are limited areas with reliable and free Wi-Fi.

9. Ireland

Much like Belgium, Ireland has a high-income tax rate and cost of living.

10. Peru

While food prices are affordable, there is limited access to credit which can be crucial for new freelancers who wish to start a business in Peru.

As a freelancer, there are a lot of countries out there that can help you get established in the industry and be your home base. If you plan to move, do your research first and, as much as possible, avoid the countries we listed above if you don’t want the setbacks these countries have for freelancers. Remember, if you’re going to succeed in this field, you need to have all the resources available to help you out, exceptionally stable Wi-Fi.
